On the outskirts of Berkhamsted village with a large garden and outside classroom, the nursery provides a calm and natural learning environment for all children to flourish. We are looking for an Assistant Manager to join our amazing team full time.

Having a warm smiling face that makes every child feel special
Pretending to eat playdough creations realistically is required, and that of drinking numerous cups of pretend tea
You must have the ability to read a ten-page fairy-tale, upside down, with at least 4 interruptions per page
You must be prepared to have lots of fun in the workplace. Laughter is something you can expect to be a large part of your working day

This amazing role will include

Operational

Assist the Nursery Manager in providing effective day-to-day management of the nursery, ensuring that either you or the Nursery Manager is on the nursery premises through operating hours.
Development excellent communications with parents/guardians, encouraging them to participate in their childs progress and development.
Assume overall management responsibility for the nursery in the absence of the Nursery Manager, including liaising with OFSTED and all external agencies.
In consultation with the Nursery Manager, formulate, operate and evaluate an annual programme of activities, suitable for the range of the children following the guidelines for the implementation of the Early Years Foundation Stage
Assist the Nursery Manager with all paperwork within the nursery.
In conjunction with the Nursery Manager, ensure that all required standards, ratios and conditions of registration are maintained at all times within the room.
Be fully conversant with the use of all computer programmes and files in use, in particular, the Nursery Manager Software and SS/SR spreadsheet.
Assist with the organisation of and attend parent meetings and open days as required, in your own time.
Assist with the preparation of the nursery for OFSTED inspections and action and recommendation made.
If appropriate, be responsible for the day-to-day management within own room, encouraging good practice by the staff team with regards to individual and group work with children.

Personnel

In the absence of the Nursery Manager, ensure that the nursery is appropriately staffed and that the correct levels of qualified/unqualified staff are always maintained.
Assist with the recruitment, training, motivation and development of staff within the room taking account of Company Policy and all statutory requirements to ensure that staff fulfil the provisions of their job descriptions.
Assist with the organisations of and attend regular staff meetings and appropriate training sessions, in your own time, which ensure staff are kept up to date on Company Policy and procedures and OFSTED requirement.
Assist with the completion of all staff rotas, ensuring they are both accurate and timely, including the reporting of absence through sickness and holidays.
Ensure all trainees within the room receive appropriate mentoring and training in accordance with their individual training needs.
Develop positive relationships with other staff working within the nursery.
Attend staff meetings and training sessions in own time, as required.
To be available to work when required during opening hours
To become a key holder if necessary
Participate in all self-development activities and continual professional development including appraisals, etc.

Financial

Assist the Nursery Manager, assist in monitoring and controlling all costs within the room.

Health and Safety

Ensure that the highest standards of safety, security, hygiene and cleanliness are operated at all times within the Nursery, and in particular, within own room.
In absence of the Nursery Manager/ Deputy Nursery Manager, ensure that all security and safety systems are always fully operational and used properly by all staff.
Ensure that children are provided with regular drinks and food in adequate quantities for their needs and that it is properly prepared, nutritious and complies with dietary and religious requirements.
Administer basic first aid in accordance with company policy. Attend first aid training as necessary. Report any deficiencies in the first aids supplies to the Nursery Manager.

General

Adhere to all Company Policies and Procedures including attendance at meetings, preparation of reports and any other duties as required.
Ensure the Companys Equal Opportunities Policy is always adhered to.
You must arrive at work in time to start your shift promptly (at least 10 minutes before your shift is due to start) and if you are on a late shift be prepared to remain at the nursery until all children have been collected (payment is made for overtime due to late collection for all children).
The foregoing is not at exhaustive list, you may be required to undertake other duties as requested, particularly if the nursery is short-staffed, and duties may change by negotiation to meet future nursery operating requirements and/or possible new legislation.
