Job Description

Starting in January 2022, or sooner, a dedicated Head of Physical Education is required for a high achieving Academy located in Southwark. The school was most recently judged Good with an Outstanding Sixth Form by Ofsted. The person appointed will have the opportunity to teach all ability levels throughout the 11-19 age range.

The school boasts some of the best facilities in the local area, with a full sized astro-turf pitch, large playing fields, hall and gym. The school has a strong reputation for sporting participation in a variety of activities: Netball, Football, Hockey, Rugby, Gymnastics, Dance, Cross-Country and Athletics.

The school are seeking to appoint a person who is passionate, who will stretch and challenge the most able whilst ensuring the importance of physical wellbeing for all. They are looking for someone who has an innovative outlook and a commitment to the role, a clear ambition and enthusiasm for physical education, and will be fully involved in the life of the school.

The successful applicant will be an outstanding teacher with an in-depth subject knowledge of a range of activities and PE exam qualifications. They will lead the development of a highly successful team continuing to drive the new GCSE qualification and extra-curriculum programme.

Duties and responsibilities as a Head of Subject are numerous but in main, they are seeking to appoint someone who:

Can lead development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies, assessment and teaching and learning strategies within the PE Department.
Day to day management, control and operation of course provision within the department, including effective deployment of staff and physical resources, including students and any support staff linked to the department.
Data and evidence-focused with excellent attention to detail.
