A helping hand from you. A head start for them.

We want all of our young people to have the best chance of success in life. The right support can really make an enormous difference. As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will make a real impact on the holistic development of our children. Help our children to progress and you ll have every opportunity to do the same with your career.

The Role

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant at Hall Cliffe Primary School, you ll be working directly with children. The role will involve covering for teaching staff as part of planned and unplanned absence. It is vital that you are able to think on your feet and enjoy the challenge of being able to quickly respond and adapt to the changing needs of the school.

You will be the line manager for other staff and take an active role in developing others. You will be a role model for other staff and lead by example.

You will support individual children and small groups by delivering interventions using a wide range of resources.

Key to this role is being able to foster strong, trusting relationships with children, staff and parents/carers. You must be able to truly understand and accept the needs behind the big behaviours. Our children can be physically and verbally aggressive. You will need to be able to have unconditional positive regard and be incredibly resilient, having an ability to bounce back time and time again. Our children need staff who understand the importance of connection before correction and understand and believe in a trauma informed approach. You will be able to make learning fun, active and hands on.

You must be computer literate as we use a range of databases and ICT every day. You must have good levels of literacy as you will be writing records and reports, providing feedback in children s books and documenting communication with parents/carers and other outside agencies.

Our children demand a special kind of empathy, warmth and skill, it s not your average HLTA role, but you ll always have the very best resources at your disposal. This will allow you to focus on inspiring each and every one of our pupils.

It will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure, but you can expect to take home a sense of having done something amazing every single day. You will join our staff team of real life superheroes who are genuinely changing lives. We have magic moments every day. You ll work as part of a collaborative team, alongside our education and pastoral staff as well as our in-house Education Psychologist, Assistant Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist and Mental Health Practitioners. All pulling together to ensure the best possible outcomes are achieved, ensuring that we prepare children for their next stages of life

Your Profile

As an experienced teaching assistant with NVQ level 3 or an existing HLTA with NVQ level 4 , you will have experience of providing cover for teaching staff. You will have good subject knowledge of what children will learn within the National Curriculum up to year 6, allowing you to lead sessions in any of our 5 classes. You will have up to date knowledge of safeguarding practices within education. You ll have good understanding of adverse childhood experiences and how to work with a trauma informed approach. You will have the ability to really connect with children. You must be emotionally strong, stable and resilient and have great communication skills. You must be aware that there are occasional meetings outside school hours, for which your attendance will be required. You must have previous experience of teaching children to read using a phonics programme, ideally the Read, Write Inc programme.
