Are you interested in becoming a Teaching Assistant at Lakeside School, an outstanding school for pupils aged 5 to 13 years who exhibit complex communication and learning difficulties with associated anxieties and behaviours?We are very excited to be opening our new secondary school building in the autumn term 2022 and have seen an increase in demand for places at Lakeside; as a result we have a wonderful opportunity to appoint more Teaching Assistants to effectively support and work with our pupils. If you want to find out more about our wonderful school and our exciting expansion to secondary, we are holding an Open Afternoon/Evening on Wednesday 30th August 15:00 to 18:00 for any interested potential applicants to come and meet some of our staff, have a look around our school and find out more.As a Teaching Assistant at Lakeside School you will need be comfortable wearing many hats , including that of a listener, an entertainer, a negotiator and a guide/assistant to our pupils. We want you to be passionate about supporting pupils to engage in the learning opportunities on offer. Desirable qualities we would look for would be flexibility, adaptability, the ability to be a good role model, resilience and a good sense of humour (being able to laugh at yourself and not take things too seriously are certainly attributes we look for).The RoleWe appreciate that striving to meet positive outcomes for pupils facing complex challenges isn t an overnight fix. Some of our pupils have experienced adversity in their early lives, which can lead to non-typical emotional responses to situations which might frustrate or annoy them. That is why we need a committed and enthusiastic individual, who is ready to start every day with a fresh outlook and welcome the children into the school and their lessons. We work as a team at Lakeside and you won t be alone in your goal to have a positive impact on our pupils lives. You ll have all the support you need from the team.You will need to be able to build trusting relationships with our pupils to help them manage the learning challenges of the day. In order for our pupils to succeed, you will need to think on your feet, coaxing their confidence both academically and socially, helping them feel accepted and understood.Day to day, you ll • Support the teacher by focusing on pupils needs, adapting to scenarios and minimising disruptions, leaving the teacher free to get on with the job of delivering lessons• Set up any equipment or tech requirements needed in the lessons, ready for use• Work one-to-one with pupils to ensure that they re getting the most out of what s being taught in the classroom• Work with pupils out of the classroom to encourage participation in learning• Work within small class reams in order to provide the best support and environment for the pupils• Use a range of diverse approaches, tailored to each individual child to best meet their needs• Complete a range of administration tasks, including completion of daily pupil records, updating information, attending meetings around the child, maintaining display boards etc.• Help to keep disruption to a minimum and de-escalate any challenges you face with a calm, rational approach• Work alongside and support our therapists to ensure that mental health support is provided to all pupils who require it.Working with UsIt is desirable that you will have had experience in a similar role and that you possess an NVQ level 2/equivalent or higher. We d also love to see up-to-date welfare and safeguarding knowledge and evidence of you working well in a team.
