Primary Teaching Assistant

Location: Newport, Gwent

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting on behalf of one of our partnership schools based within Newport, Gwent. We are looking to recruit various Teaching Assistants to work as both a general teaching assistant and some to support children on a one-to-one basis supporting children with additional learning needs. The school are seeking an educator who has experience working within primary schools or other education-based settings and has a positive and passionate attitude towards the development of children's learning.

What is expected of a Teaching Assistant?

  • Setting up equipment and helping to prepare the classroom for lessons
  • Assisting with display boards and tidying up at the end of each lesson
  • Providing support to children who need additional support with their tasks
  • Helping pupils develop independent learning skills and manage their own learning
  • Providing support to smaller groups of children and assisting with their reading and literacy needs
  • Helping the teacher with record-keeping and occasionally marking tasks such as spelling tests
  • Looking after the children's pastoral needs by supporting them socially and emotionally
  • Assist with supervising the children at all times
  • Adhering to all safeguarding and child protection policies
  • Ensuring the behaviour rules are adhered too and promote the reinforcement of positive behaviour

Essential Requirements for this position will be:

  • Child Only DBS certificate which is registered on the update service
  • Registration as a "School Learning Support Worker" with the Education Workforce Council
  • Able to provide 2 professional based references
  • Completion of our free Level 2 Safeguarding Course
